What happens after I apply?
Shortlisted applicants are invited to a Volunteer Recruitment
and Induction session which is facilitated by a number of current SDV volunteers, Committee members and the Coordinator. The
session involves information about volunteering with SDV, small group work and an informal interview. Lunch is provided.
After the Recruitment and Information session, successful volunteers are invited to sign up to the next visit rota.
We ask that visitors commit to visiting for at least six months - most stay with us a
lot longer! Visitors visit between two and four times a month on a Monday or Thursday evening or weekends.
Part of the role of the visitor is attending regular Visitor Support
meetings where visitors can share issues of concern that arise at visits. We also invite speakers and trainers to
cover topics concerned with asylum, immigration and detention so that visitors can continually update their knowledge.
